Reach New Heights in 2020 by Building Your Ladders

Welcome to the very first Excel Still More blog post!  Each Thursday we will echo the ideas of the Monday podcast and detail some action items for you to consider. Today we begin by focusing on the upcoming year.  Who do you want to become? What does a better you look like and how do you start building a ladder to get to that next level?  Let's get started!

BuildingYourLadders-01

Who do you want to become in the coming year?  Can you list three areas of your life in which you are determined to improve?  You don't have to come up with a specific task to accomplish yet.  Instead, come up with some big picture ideas like: "I want to be a stronger Christian" or "I want better control over my finances."  As we'll discuss in the coming weeks, it doesn't do much good to set a goal you don't care about.  You need to visualize this growth and be truly excited about who you will become.  This is you at the next level, on the platform above. Now we need to figure out how to get there!

Can you come up with specific goals that prove those aspirations?  Now it is time to be more specific.  You need to choose lofty and awesome goals that, once accomplished, will be the work that led to desired change. If you chose something like:  "I want to be a stronger Christian," then pick a massive goal that would prove that growth.  Maybe you decide to read the entire Bible through this year!  If you want to be a better parent, maybe choose to spend 100 hours of quality time with your kids.  See if you can come up with at least one specific target for each area of growth. There are the ladders to the next level.

Will you spend time in prayer conversing with God about this?  Okay, I assume you have chosen some things that will prove a next-level you.  I also am guessing they are awesome. That is, awesome for your soul, your God, and your family.  So the next step is to pray about them.  Communicate to God what these accomplishments would mean to you.  "Be anxious for nothing," but tell God why this matters to you and openly proclaim that you can do it if He is with you. Building ladders require those side rails to stay in place, and that is all up to God!

How are your math skills?  So the next step is to take that enormous, specific goal, and break it down into 12 pieces.  If you accomplished a certain amount of it in January, and then simply repeated that month after month, it would undoubtedly get you where you want to go.  These are the ladder's rungs.  So if you want to read the whole Bible, get a program that allows you to spread the work throughout the year and check in on your progress monthly.   If you want to pay off a debt, divide the amount owed up into 12 pieces and determine to budget that much each and every month! Don't fret about the end result, just make sure you build each monthly rung, creating a rhythm of repetition all the way to the top!

What do you have going on next Monday morning?  Episode 2 of the new season releases on January 13th.  If you have difficulty deciding how to accomplish monthly goals, since a month seems like a long time, then episode 2 will help.  It turns out, if we can win the week, we can win the war.  If you learn the cadence of a week that exists in almost all our lives, and you learn to use those seven days toward your monthly rung, you cannot be stopped!  So make sure to get those goals specified and tune in next week!
