What to remember
We can pray about God's presence, about using small opportunities, about prioritizing what matters.
What this means is even that which is mundane or challenging or not exciting is still an opportunity to be a faithful child of God.

The story behind the idea

Jesus assures us that he is with us, that the Lord is near to us, and God's presence is not negated or minimized or affected by any kind of schedule. This is something that you need to make sure your kids know that God is watching over them, not just threateningly, like, you know, God's going to be with you today. I'm not going to be seeing what you're doing, but God's going to be watching. That should, first of all, for Christian families, be a sign of great comfort.

What stands out

Everywhere you go, wherever you take your body, we looked at this two weeks ago, your vessel, is an opportunity to do that which is right, to shine and make a difference and demonstrate your faith. What this means is even that which is mundane or challenging or not exciting is still an opportunity to be a faithful child of God. I think sometimes people categorize their lives like, oh, it's fall, it's school and work and grind time, and I'll have some spiritual things that'll happen here and there, but really this is the major thing.

Why it matters

This leads to a second question here in this middle portion. What will our kids remember about this time of life, about this time of year, about this fall school year between summer and the holidays?

A faithful way forward

The purpose isn't to raise impressive kids, it's to raise kids who love Jesus. It's to raise kids who know how to balance their life and their responsibilities and their schedules to prioritize their walk with God. Because if they think eighth grade is something, wait till they get out there and they're working a full-time job. Then comes a family and April 15th and all kinds of wild things.

Put it into practice

We can pray about a lot of the things we talked about today. We can pray about God's presence, about using small opportunities, about prioritizing what matters. If we can't start our day together quietly considering God, then what are the odds we'll find time to do that throughout the day?

Think about it

Take the idea with you.
