The story behind the idea

While the imagery is the same in each season, there are unique things that are borne out. It's not about you consuming them from life around you or people around you. So, in that vein, let's slightly alter the lyrics from that song that we referenced a couple of weeks ago.

What stands out

Where has God positioned you to say, hey, we're in the early fall of your life and the conditions are perfect for dot, dot, dot.

Why it matters

It's fulfillment for them, but it's also exactly what God loves seeing at that point in their life. I'm not here to fill that in for you, and we have something else we need to talk about, but would you please just spend a little bit of time thinking, what can I produce now that I've almost uniquely been brought to this place to do? From this place, I have another question, and we'll use our last 10 minutes on this.

A faithful way forward

I was thinking about that tree, and I was going, okay, I think I get it. He's saying to the Jewish leaders, to Jerusalem, to all of those people, I should be able to come to you and receive fruit from you. We've done lots of sowing, lots of fertilizing, and yet because there's no fruit, you will shrivel up, you will die.

Put it into practice

I think what he's getting at here is the way these Jewish people saw him. Jesus didn't need to be forgiven, he was sinless, but they held offense against him. So long as they held offense in bitterness and jealousy against him, and could not in that sense forgive him, though he had not sinned, they would not be able to bear the fruit of the kingdom. They could have done the impossible, but not with that in their heart.

Think about it
