The story behind the idea
Here's the thing as we get into this, it's not about a binary choice or position on what you think one sin will do in some given circumstance. It's about building out the full picture of how the New Testament describes a faithful life, which will be a flawed life. Flaws you may not even know you have, you have, and you have to acknowledge that. Yet there's a way that we live where we are protected even through imperfections.
What stands out
It proves the limitless nature of his love, how far Jesus would go because you can't go that far.
Why it matters
If we say we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
A faithful way forward
How many things does a brand new Christian have figured out? How many sins and shortcomings and misdirections and under education are they going to need to overcome? Jesus is going to walk with them because they've chosen a new path, and even in their stumbles they walk with him.
Put it into practice
If you read the Gospel of John in 1 John, and I said, What are the two commandments that are required to be saved as premier and focal points? You would say believe in Jesus and his authority as the Son of God and love other people like he loves them. I'm just saying those two things like love God, love your neighbor, wrap around everything else.
