The story behind the idea

First John 5 4, whoever is born of God overcomes the world, and this is the victory that has overcome the world, our faith. Jesus told the woman in Luke 7 50, your faith has saved you, go in peace. Having faith, biblical faith, faith derived from Jesus is essential to be saved. We could add many more verses to that if we chose to use the word belief.

What stands out

Let me briefly build a picture for you that is not consistent with what will happen on the last day, but I want you to put yourself here anyway and think through what you would do. I want you to imagine that you get home this evening and you're with your family, or you're with the people that you love most in the world, and Jesus appeared to you all.

Why it matters

You wouldn't need to believe in heaven or believe in hell or trust that Jesus was coming back. You and I wouldn't need to be convinced that heaven was greater than all of the world's goods.

A faithful way forward

I want you to imagine that every time you faced one of those decisions, Jesus appeared right next to you. He put his hand on your shoulder and he looked at you and said, This is one of our moments.

Put it into practice

That's why our belief, our faith, is constantly being deepened and developed by worship and study and prayer and being with people who inspire us. That will be transformational, or at least I can tell you it has been for me.

Think about it

Take the idea with you.
