The story behind the idea
His birth name, by the way, was neither Watchman nor the Chinese equivalent, but in his twenties, he took on a name change that is represented by this English word. He felt like it represented the life that he had chosen to be a watchman for the truth and the message of Jesus.
What stands out
Fortunately, much of what he taught and how he shared the gospel is preserved for us in a variety of books.
Why it matters
It is from this place of joy and peace in the Lord that we then walk. Ephesians 1 through 3 just keeps building towards the glory in the church in Christ Jesus and the love of Jesus that surpasses anything you can comprehend, that's wrapped all around you every day. Then in chapter 4, verse 1, the Apostle Paul writes this Therefore, I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called.
A faithful way forward
It's not just walk in a way that returns honor to Jesus for what he did, it's walk in a way worthy of the calling with which you have been called. I have been called to be lavished by his grace, to be redeemed by his goodness and his blood, to live in his fellowship and in his presence at all times.
Put it into practice
Your stand against the devil is just calling upon the help of the Lord Jesus and letting his truths, his promises, and his power live through you. Really, even this armor of God, the loin of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the gospel of peace, the faith, the word of God, the helmet of salvation, it's all Jesus. Going into the book, I knew all of that, but I think what really blew me away is he made a point about how the devil is already lost.
