The story behind the idea

People who learn how to master their lives are people who have learned how to master today. I remember from the book he gets into these ideas about how looking backwards has benefit, but it's limited benefit because there's no ability on your part to change it. The future is not guaranteed, and honestly, it's just going to be a place you end up because of steps that you make, you know, today.

What stands out

They're taking up time and attention, they're inefficient, there are diminished returns, they may be anchors holding us back, maybe we do it out of respect for the people who are here before us. What are things that just aren't getting it done that we need to stop immediately?

Why it matters

If they are woefully inefficient or misguided or wasteful, it will add up to a collapsed company and a lot of hurt people. I say all that kind of sarcastically because I think for most of us, our faith, our relationship with God is more important than any company in the world. I know that our families are, and for many of us, our church family as well. It's not, hey, companies do this, maybe we should try it.

A faithful way forward

Maybe it's something from the standard four F's of the early years of ESM. They want to see changes in their faith or family, or maybe their fitness or finances. Maybe it's as simple as God telling us to grow and to utilize our resources more wisely.

Put it into practice

How does all that work in your own life and health or in your marriage, in family, or in just optimizing and re-energizing your life? We certainly need a wise way to evaluate what is happening as we've talked about today, but I want to finish up by taking you back to where we started. Please remember that your best effort is accomplished in daytight increments.
