The story behind the idea
I mentioned this last week when I referenced briefly that we would be talking about older people. There are many things you can do to improve your marriage, your lifestyle, the way you use your time, how you advocate for the kingdom of the Lord in the name of Jesus Christ. If you haven't started good habits, if you aren't working from a place of momentum, it's kind of like investing. It just means you will probably have to put in more each day or week or month than someone who is much younger because you have a shorter period of time.
What stands out
The first 30 years has a lot of really crucial, lasting choices, which is of course kind of wild because I think our brains are still developing into our 20s or something, and we're making all these major decisions. They don't all get locked in for life, but when we first choose them, that's the objective. Hopefully we do some listening and learning and we understand the naivete of our lives and the need for help.
Why it matters
If you're listening and you're not yet that age, ask yourself, what do you want that to be like? What have you observed in others that looks amazing, particularly in the kingdom of the Lord Jesus? Even in family and in friendships and experiences, and think about how to structure your life now so that you can be like those people. Also low-key and carefully study people in retirement age and older age who are not enjoying their lives, who clearly something has not come together to a crescendo of amazing service and love, and it's gone the other way.
A faithful way forward
Let's just round that down to 900 to fit our 90 scale. He was around 500 years old when God called him to build the ark. The ark took, I don't know, maybe a hundred years to build, something like that.
Put it into practice
He probably thought he was in the prime of his life and ready to accomplish this, but the people weren't ready, and God needed him to wait. So he left for 40 years, got married, had some kids, worked some fields, and then at the age of eighty, which for him is the exact two-thirds mark, God said, Now, now you go back.
