Begin with the truth

Listen, if our passion for growth is susceptible to the natural world, to what is going on around us, we will always get stopped. Because I'm telling you, we do not live in a Jesus centric society, but we are Jesus centric people, eccentric in that way, to the glory of his name.

Today we'll get a chance to look at his life a little, notice something very specific that he was able to do that most people are not, and maybe it will give you one more thing to think about as you go about building what very well could be your best year ever.

What this reveals about God

But I am excited by the prospect that some book I might read or some email that might come in or some experience that hits me this week can teach me something new, something about myself, something about why I'm here, or what's the right thing to do next. Category one represents people who are really hard to help, and chances are you're not one of them, or you probably wouldn't be listening to this podcast.

Now, the second category is more where I have fallen in years past, where I would be willing to tell you that look, the things that have happened to me have caused me to learn things.

Let faith take root

I titled this episode He Learned Obedience just to make sure that I led this direction to Jesus before we concluded. I was reading in Hebrews recently where it said that Jesus learned obedience through the things which he suffered.

I mean, if anybody belonged in category one where they had nothing to learn, it would be Jesus.

Respond in daily life

He was different, he was better, and now he is a king and high priest in which we can put total trust, absolute, because he learned obedience in the things that he suffered. So look, I better stop talking about that now because Jesus and what he learned and how he changed is so far beyond my pay grade.

But I know what it feels like as a servant of his, as a citizen under his kingship, as an appointed priest in the family of this great, sympathetic, victorious, experienced high priest and loving Lord.

Think about it

Take the idea with you.

  1. 01Where do I see the problem or opportunity described in “What It Means That Jesus Learned Obedience” in my own life?
  2. 02What Scripture or spiritual principle in this study most needs my attention?
  3. 03What one specific change can I make this week to put this teaching into practice?
