See the Father’s character at the cross
When we remember Jesus, we rightly think about what His sacrifice provides for us. Romans 3:21–26 also asks us to consider what it reveals about God. He is just, and He justifies the person who has faith in Jesus. The Father does not have to call sin harmless to show mercy. He does not have to abandon sinners to remain righteous. Through His Son, He has supplied a saving answer that deserves our gratitude and deepens our trust in His character.
One part of His provision is a clear pattern for living. Romans 8:29 describes becoming like His Son, and First Peter 2:21 points to Christ’s example in suffering. We are not left to invent a picture of faithfulness. Jesus’ patience, truthfulness, service, and obedience show the direction of our growth. His teaching and the instruction of His apostles help us follow it. When we remember His death, we should renew our desire to become more like the One who gave Himself for us.
Receive more than an example
An example, however, cannot remove the guilt we already carry. Romans 3:23 says we have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. Even while pursuing the right direction, we need mercy for our failures. Paul therefore points to justification as a gift of grace through redemption in Christ. His blood provides the atoning sacrifice. We should not turn obedience into payment that makes grace unnecessary. Nor should we use grace to excuse refusing His instruction. Faith receives His gift with willing submission.
The Father’s care is also present now. Romans 5:10 connects reconciliation through Christ’s death with salvation through His life. Romans 8:33–34 directs our confidence to the risen Lord at God’s right hand, interceding for us. The Savior we remember is alive. We do not face every weakness as though His concern ended at the cross. Bring your needs to the Father, trust the provision He has made, and keep following under the care of the One who lives for His people.
Trust the living Lord and share His message
The reach of this message is another reason for gratitude. Romans 1:16–17 calls the gospel God’s power for salvation to everyone who believes, Jew and Greek alike. John 3:16 speaks of His love for the world. Neither distance from Jerusalem nor the passing of centuries places us beyond the good news. We should not restrict our concern to familiar people, either. The gospel can reach someone whose background differs greatly from ours, and its invitation deserves a faithful response.
Let remembrance include thanks for the fullness of God’s gift. Jesus supplies the pattern, the redemption, and the living intercession we need. His gospel has reached us and can reach others through our willing help. Choose one place where His example should change your conduct. Return honestly over a failure. Encourage someone with the hope found in Him. The righteousness revealed at the cross gives us good reason to trust the Father and participate gratefully in the life His Son provides.
