What to remember
One thing I've learned over the years is the best way for the program to grow is for friends to tell people how valuable it's been for them.
He said, Look, AA and recovery programs would be easy if it was like God keeps you sober, have a great life.
He loves his son more than anything, more than life itself, more than the bottle, and he goes out and he does it again.
Key Scriptures
Matthew 6Romans 6

The story behind the idea

It's easy to say they have a problem and I have a problem, but they're very different. Listen, in that addiction is defined as compulsory behavior that you cannot control, addiction is addiction. Someone may just be ankle deep on one end, someone else sinking to the bottom of the deep end, and many in between.

What stands out

He's not saying, hey guys, if you realize that it's all happening in your heart and inside of you, then you'll realize that you can just fix it, that it's all under your control. All you have to do is realize that and flip a switch.

Why it matters

He's saying if you are succumbing to any form of addiction, addiction is addiction. They are all sourced on what's on the inside first, and sequencing your life from grace to faith to life is crucial. Then Adam told us all in emphatic and deeply emotional wording, Jesus is the only answer.

A faithful way forward

Adam paused and looked at all of us and said, Don't tell me that this man loves the bottle more than his son. He loves his son more than anything, more than life itself, more than the bottle, and he goes out and he does it again. Lastly, after losing all of that, the legal system says if you do this one more time, you're going to jail and we're throwing away the key.

Put it into practice

He said, Look, AA and recovery programs would be easy if it was like God keeps you sober, have a great life. He said, You've got to keep turning back to and deepening your relationship with the one who freed you from all of this.
