The story behind the idea
He has this central purpose to convince you to believe that Jesus is the Son of God. If you will believe in who he is from God, repeatedly, John writes, and Jesus says, You will have eternal life. His focus is on Christ's identity, chapter one, he is deity from the beginning.
What stands out
I'm talking about John chapter 8, the first eleven verses or so, where the Pharisees, who don't get quite as much run in this letter as in the other gospels, but they show up and they want to test Jesus. They have a belief in God, as we will talk about in a moment, but not true faith in God, for they have not put their trust and love in Jesus. In order to test him, they find a woman caught in adultery in the very act and bring her to him and wonder what he's going to do about it.
Why it matters
There are people who have some belief in God and in Scripture and maybe even in Jesus, but they want a Messiah that's different than Jesus. One who does not demand that we give our lives for him in order to have eternal life.
A faithful way forward
I don't know where she is on her faith journey at this point, but she's busted, and death could be the very next thing in her life.
Put it into practice
