Beware of Idolatry
It would be low-hanging fruit, a really easy target for me to say that idolatry is pursuing sinful things in this life to find some fulfillment that should.

The story behind the idea
Other than a little bit of editing on the plane rides, I had no opportunity to work on that while we were out of town, so I've come back to hit it pretty hard. We should have that ready to go by mid-November, and I can't wait to share it with you. I've started a new partnership with Spirit Building Publishing, who are helping me pull all of that together.
What stands out
That's kind of the way idolatry works when we are not fully surrendering to Christ and trusting him entirely. You're going to need some things in your life to fill a certain kind of void, something that becomes a priority that even becomes more important than God. That particular God will only help you in one area, and you'll need a whole slew of them to cover the gambit of your shortcomings and problems.
Why it matters
Everything that I'm sort of mentally holding together falls apart if it isn't in place. God is the only thing that should have that kind of power in your life. I think a more specific way to ask this question is simply would you be willing to give it back to the Lord?
A faithful way forward
This person doesn't have much trouble with the first part. They are fully focused on God and seek to serve him above all else. They want to study scripture and know his will and do it his way.
Put it into practice
I'm not going out like Jonah, who determined that those people could not be saved and needed God to conform to his decisions as if he was God in order to be at peace. In some ways, as I referenced earlier, this may be the worst idolatry of all. Because we're not just replacing God with blessings from God or replacing God's teaching with our own.
