The story behind the idea
I will borrow a little bit of his language and points, but I don't want to use them all because I would love it if you enjoy this episode and you hear things from this beginning examination of the story of Luke 5. Then you can move straight from here over to Jed's podcast and you'll hear some different things. It was just really well done, but I'll try to be conscientious about that.
What stands out
Jesus steps into a fishing boat during the end of a work day and the middle of people's fatigue and failure. Jesus doesn't ignore that since it's physical and doesn't matter and purely focused on the spiritual things.
Why it matters
If He's with us, anything and everything can happen. Number three, in the story, you can tell that Jesus has hit on a sensitive topic.
A faithful way forward
That's why he says, I am not even worthy to be in this boat with you. He's not saying I'm a man living in sin and I should be condemned by you. He's just saying, I am a man who sins, who is so far lesser than you are. I have to say, just reading through Matthew right now as part of the daily Bible read, Jesus responds to humility in incredible ways.
Put it into practice
He does many times do wonderful things that relate to our physical existence, but are there not always some spiritual purpose or implication? I need to challenge you this week to be very optimistic and think about the times when you were tired and didn't know what to do and Jesus put fish in the net. I think about all kinds of things like hospitality, God's giving me a nice home and all of these amenities.
