The story behind the idea
It's an entire process of increasingly surrendering to Jesus as the author of your life. So I just kind of started to notice, and I've been doing this preaching thing a while, that people would look for a very simple definition of Christian that kind of checked that big box, and then they just jumped right in as if nothing else mattered. They either knew already or they soon found out that true Christianity that cultivates a great relationship is a lot more than that.
What stands out
We can find out spaces where it can improve by identifying your quality time. What good is going on a walk if you're not willing to talk to each other?
Why it matters
He can get his shoulders oriented in a certain way that when he says it, the words mean nothing.
A faithful way forward
I want them to talk through what it means to them and how they feel like they're doing it that. That's when I usually bring up the story of the Tower of Babel and how that was all God really needed to do to completely decimate a project and send people in opposite directions. Of course they went back and told David, and he rallied up an army and whipped them.
Put it into practice
Also, people who do not know how to communicate those things effectively will always feel like they're morally superior in the situation, but are actually just perpetuating the problem. Please remember your relationship with God and how he disciplines and corrects you, but he always does it in a way that fills you with hope, makes you feel loved, and makes you want to do better. I've probably told you this story before, but my wife, I used to call her a master manipulator. Somebody told me one day that that wasn't really a term of endearment, so I don't use that anymore.
