The story behind the idea
I will tell you directly, that is the toughest situation of all. What do I do when the other person has absolutely sinned against God and me or the ones that I love and feels no remorse? Although, if you want to think about that a little more, I want you to first realize that you are not the forgiver of sins.
What stands out
Treat people the way you want them to treat you, not as a reaction to how they're treating you.
Why it matters
That text did not reference how they come to you or how often they come to you or whether they clear some waiver with you so that you can release them. Just when you're about to pray to God, make sure you've released everyone from everything. Because ultimately it is God who will judicially decide whether they are in their sin or out of their sin or saved or lost.
A faithful way forward
Let me run you through a few very important questions between you and whatever offender that you have in mind. Just three questions to make sure we're at least moving in the right direction.
Put it into practice
Jesus just chooses not to forgive or not to forget or to keep loading up consequences. Do you praise God every day that that is not the Jesus whom you serve? There may be consequences in life, and sometimes the sin we commit against others comes with mortal fleshly consequences, but Jesus has never made the consequence his abandonment of me.
