The story behind the idea
Daily discipline to get to where he wants you to go is a whole lot better than knowing what it's going to look like when you get there. I've thought about this a lot in my life in areas that are less important, that are not attached to my walk in Christ.
What stands out
You know, that's that wooden structure that you put there with a vine, or we have some uh tomato plants out in the backyard right now. The plant's going to grow, it's going to react to the sunlight and the weather and the fertilizer in the ground. However it's growing and in whatever spurts that it does so, the trellis becomes this track, this direction that guides it and keeps it moving where we want it to go.
Why it matters
While these nine things can lead you to a different financial place in life, a different health place, better job, I don't want you to apply it in any of those directions today. I can tell you in my life, those have all rendered themselves to be far more hollow and less important than my walk with my Lord. I want to walk in a way that brings me closer to Him and Him to me.
A faithful way forward
Then I open the scripture and I expect that the word will address those things as it most beautifully and uniquely is capable of doing, and then come out of the read and go straight back to conveying the meaning to God. Simply put, this is a process of making the world wait, putting everything else aside, calming everything down so that you can be near God. You can talk to God, you can think about God, you can hear the words of God, and you can consider how your relationship with God is central to everything else, everything else about your life.
Put it into practice
It may be that even in our own fellowship, in our own churches, there are people who consider themselves Christians, but in their daily living don't look or live like Jesus would. Remember from last week, apprenticeship is kind of a what would Jesus do thing, but it's more like how would Jesus be living out my life if he was in my shoes? Yes, he'd still go get groceries and mow the lawn and go to work and pull for the Astros.
