The story behind the idea
In other words, total annihilation of these things that God perceives have become more important to them than Him. Much like how that process hurts us in our lives, that's what got Israel into trouble when they turned to other people and other things over God. I want you to notice it's not be less a part of my life, be more often repudiated, it is be gone.
What stands out
Here's a second thing that the scripture talks about personal greed and materialism. This may hit a little more personal for you and me, but Jesus talked about it quite openly in the Sermon on the Mount. In Matthew chapter 6, he said, You cannot have two masters. You will always have to despise the one or hate the one for the sake of honoring the other.
Why it matters
Put God on a shelf like an idol, so that you can serve your family first?
A faithful way forward
Not all things are right in this moment, not all things are right for the people around you. Are you willing to say no to yourself where you got a full green light just because God has a plan that's a bit more disciplined and features other people? If I can't do that, then that thing, even that lawful thing, has mastered me because it's been about me over others over Jesus.
Put it into practice
That's part of what this episode's about, realizing where we are so that we can turn to God. Then, last question, how far are you willing to go to choose God over these things and a lukewarm life?
