The story behind the idea
Again, they were humorous, they were likable, they were generally good people. Since then, it's talk show hosts who have deep care for others, though this is the choice of their lifestyle. Now we have moved so far down the stream of this that media, cartoons, animated features, things that our kids are being marketed include these elements. I want to say something about entertainment, and I don't want to hurt your feelings, but I believe even the most committed Christians tend to compromise when it comes to their entertainment.
What stands out
I think you should think about it and talk about it with your family about re-examining what we listen to, particularly media, music, and movies. I mean, we listen to country music about adultery and fornication and smoking and drinking, and we're like, that's a great new country song.
Why it matters
I wrote on my notes here, we need to put the Christ back in Christianity. The answer to all darkness is light, the light, and that light is Jesus. What I've done here for the sermon is gone back through all five of the pieces and looked just in the gospels on how Jesus teaching an example is exactly what we need in a time like this.
A faithful way forward
When ungodly people portray themselves in kind and caring ways, even, we'll assume here, that they are those kind and caring people. Number one, recognize good qualities, even those who need correction. Jesus saw good in the rich young ruler, in Nicodemus, in Zacchaeus.
Put it into practice
That's the kind of categorization they were willing to use, in the name of God, even. He just went on carrying out the work of the Lord and trying to help them when he could.
