The story behind the idea

Nick Saban, famous college and professional football coach and the example of Jesus. Jesus, of course, is the greater of us all, but leaders and disciplined people who've helped a lot of young people accomplish their goals, guys like Nick Saban have some great principles to share. I would like to begin the main part of today's episode by sharing with you about a minute or so worth of an interview that he recently did. I think you'll see how it ties into our faith and our Lord.

What stands out

There will be tips today, but instead of them being proofs from my life that hit or miss or what some self-help guy says works, I just want to study the life of Jesus. I've learned more now in my life than ever before that if our eyes are fixed on him, he lived the human experience and he taught us how to live it. When we talk about the suffering of Christ during his life and ministry and death, we mean experiencing things like pain, but also enduring hardship, undergoing distress, and bearing up under trial.

Why it matters

He suffered those pressures, those internal temptations, and he did not relent. Can you imagine just to look at this big picture, if Jesus came and only did the things that he wanted to do that fit what he wanted for himself? He never did any of the things that he didn't want to do, especially if it didn't serve some benefit for himself, we would all be dead in our sins.

A faithful way forward

I will use my mind, my body, and my life to carry out God's will.

Put it into practice

So the why you're looking for, why be self-disciplined? Why take care of your body and your life and your future and curb your walk and tell yourself, no, why? In order for you to control you and face up under pain, hardship, distress, and trials that face you, it has to be about others and not just you.

Think about it

Take the idea with you.
