What to remember
He just lived this consistent, humble, wonderful life for God, no matter what other people did or said.
If we ever see Pilate in heaven, it will be because of how his life was changed by the integrity and godliness and submissiveness and holiness of Jesus.
Key Scriptures
Daniel 6

The story behind the idea

They don't like his leadership, and he's about to become the head over all of them, and they're trying to prevent it. They can see that he's still a man of integrity, so they know they have to come up with something that would cause him to choose between his life and the law of God. The men go to King Darius and they come up with this idea that he signed a document that for thirty days no one can worship or bow down to anything or anyone else but him. Darius is oblivious to the plot, and so he signs it.

What stands out

When it says in verse 22, My God sent his angel, Daniel reports, and shut the lion's mouth. Again, God did not begin this event, he did not initiate the things that happened, he just observed, he didn't put his hand in it, at least not in a miraculous way. He watched it unfold, he saw Daniel's integrity, and then God acted.

Why it matters

This should certainly make a powerful point that some people who are supposed to be noble and good do the most despicable things. They frame it as positively as possible, but do the most hateful things to other people for the sake of their own name and their own power and their own people.

A faithful way forward

Daniel was able to stay faithful even when surprised by their tactics, and you must keep trusting in the Lord, and the Lord will do what is right for the righteous and against the wicked. So there are a couple of other applications I want to make here near the end, but first we need to put some attention on Jesus.

Put it into practice

He just lived this consistent, humble, wonderful life for God, no matter what other people did or said. Like Daniel before him, that's exactly how we need to live. Don't initiate a lot of trouble and don't react so severely to trouble.

Think about it
