The story behind the idea

Six or seven hundred people packed in a building that is not built for that, so that we can praise God together. A good friend of mine, Keith Stoneheart, is coming into town to do a lot of the teaching. My son Luke will do a lot of the teaching, and so will I.

What stands out

If you have a flame or a candle, you can light all the candles in the room and you still have the same bright flame. Not exactly a part of what I'm doing with you today, but I'm just telling you it's an exciting weekend.

Why it matters

Jesus is sustaining your life this very hour and infusing your heart with purpose through providence and passages and people, whether you resist it or not. There is this sense in which this is the way God built it, and you can refute it and you can try to make yourself bigger than the sun, and it won't change the size of either. So it becomes our mission to acknowledge Jesus for who he is and praise him for it, to draw in that light and understand then, in terms of responsibility, that the world very often, in its darkness, receives his light from you.

A faithful way forward

This is something we've been talking about at services and sermons a lot lately, this idea that Jesus saved me so that I could go out and, you know, be this great saved person, but that's not the way the gospel teaches it. It teaches that Jesus formed a body of believers, a collection of people functioning together under his leadership.

Put it into practice

Quite simply, I just want to ask you to think more about life in terms of Jesus, less in terms of yourself and the world. We talk sometimes about joy, Jesus, then others, then yourself. This will actually sequence a little bit differently because it's Jesus first and then how he interacts with you.

Think about it
