The story behind the idea
I would like to serve God free and with support, but the things we put in place will help us no matter what. You might recall that even before this last imprisonment recorded in Acts, the Apostle Paul and Silas were thrown into prison much earlier in Philippi. I have to imagine that was incredibly shocking to be thrown in jail.
What stands out
I kind of feel this way when I go worship somewhere or when I gather with Christians somewhere, there's rarely just this neutral feeling. I either feel like me and all the believers in the room love each other and want to help each other, or there's something or someone there that just pulls in a negative direction.
Why it matters
Sadly, you can only be at peace with other people as is in your power to do so. I still really struggle, but let's not get too comfortable with that division.
A faithful way forward
You cannot compartmentalize him, pull him off the shelf when things get scary. Everything about your life, all people you're around, all things that you're doing, up or down, left or right, everything is communicated to God and involves him. Try to create a consistent relationship with God and his people that rejoices in the great blessings every day and just makes it all about sharing him and living close to him. Then when tough times come, you won't have to make some big pivot, some big change.
Put it into practice
I need to read one more verse where he reveals what that secret is, but I just want you thinking about what a life like that could be. If you rejoiced when good things happened, when people came through for you, when God was clearly pouring blessings into your life, awesome. You come to a place where you are content in Christ no matter what.
