The story behind the idea
So that's an update on where we are, and thank you again for your wonderful support. What I think we need to do to end out the year is revisit Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People just one more time. I'm limiting the series to just three parts when there really could be at least a half a dozen.
What stands out
If you're someone who reacts very quickly, who elevates a thing instantly, and I think there are some people who don't even really operate well unless they've elevated it to some massive thing.
Why it matters
If you walk away from that person going, you know what, this is a really big deal, and what they've said is not what I think or believe, then your next move needs to be prayerfulness and really investigating what they're saying. I learned a long time ago, and I can't remember what book it was from, but I need to be able to present their case maybe even better than they present it, at least in my own mind.
A faithful way forward
They're kind of like the first round of a golf tournament. You can't win the whole thing on day one, but you sure can lose it. I really got to thinking about this one and wanted to talk to you about the fakeness that often kind of facilitates a hollow version of this point. I remember going to lunch with a guy a couple of years ago.
Put it into practice
Even if the other person is wrong, let's assume this is a really important deal. Maybe they're doing something sinful and you need to try to help them out of it. Pushing them, hoping they'll fall over is not a good strategy.
Take the idea with you.
