Begin with the truth

We have not talked about this topic much in previous episodes, but I'll put it to you this way: what's the purpose of growing in your relationship with the Lord if you are not sharing the nature of that relationship with the next generation? In the middle section of the episode, I want to really introduce the title today, Creation to Revelation, in order to help us see that everything going on in the Bible, from Genesis chapter one all the way through to Revelation 22 is the Christ story.

So sharing Jesus with the young people in our lives, it includes Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, the birth of Jesus all the way through to his resurrection and ascension, but it also includes the book of Genesis.

What this reveals about God

In Genesis chapter 18, verse 19, God said, I have chosen him, so that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice, so that the Lord may bring upon Abraham what he has spoken about him. God chose that man because God's plans were bigger than that man.

They included his children, and his children's children down generation after generation until ultimately the great promise of the blessings of Jesus came through him.

Let faith take root

Just about every story, every major character, everything God did throughout the narrative of the Old Testament. It is giving us these glimpses of Jesus, Christ like character, Christ-like salvation missions, leaders, prophets, priests, and kings.

Teach those Old Testament kings and books to your children, but not just so they can win a Bible bowl or something, but so that they can see the messianic message realized when they engage in a relationship with our Lord and Savior.

Respond in daily life

He knew he would act in faith and people could look to him, but he also knew that he would share the promises of God and the glorious power of God's ever present nature with his children, with Isaac, who would share it with Jacob, and then Joseph, and onward. I want you to replace Abraham's name with yours, and Isaac and Jacob with your children and grandchildren, and the young people where you worship.

May we love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and may we teach him diligently to our sons and daughters every single day that God grants us influence in their life.

Think about it

Take the idea with you.

  1. 01Where do I see the problem or opportunity described in “From Creation to Revelation: Seeing the Bible’s Big Story” in my own life?
  2. 02What Scripture or spiritual principle in this study most needs my attention?
  3. 03What one specific change can I make this week to put this teaching into practice?
