No Perfect People
In other words, as you've heard me say many times, this is not a country club and it shouldn't feel like one.

The story behind the idea
I think it really challenged us to ask ourselves: the local church where I worship and work, are we gospel-centric? Experiencing that gospel, sharing the story of the good news and power of Jesus, and purposefully as a part of our pattern and mission, sharing that story with people around us in the community around us who are not yet Christians. By the way, at the end of the episode, I tied some of that to the theme and pattern of the book of Philippians. I was hopeful and prayerful that that would work its way into a sermon, and it did.
What stands out
It would be arrogant for a non Christian to say that they had achieved perfection in their walk, but it would be equally as arrogant for those who reside in that building to say that. We do the best we can as a collective, corporately, local churches and what they endeavor to do in the name of the Lord. We seek to follow Bible example and authority, but the concept of perfection, perfect interpretation, perfect application, flawless execution, it seems dangerous to assert that that's on the table for us.
Why it matters
Our second word on this little journey today is perfected. You will never achieve perfection in your walk, not you, not me, not us, but we can all and each be perfected in Jesus. Let me read a few verses from Hebrews 10 about Jesus' sacrifice compared to the Old Testament and be listening for our word.
A faithful way forward
If you come in and go, no, we need to grow and change and learn and become more faithful and serve him more fully, they might circle back to, well, nobody's perfect. So I want to spend the last few minutes on that word perfect. Let me start with something with which you may not agree and then stick with me for a few minutes and see if I can iron it out.
Put it into practice
I mean, I guess I don't mean sinless by that, but in some sense I kind of do. I would love to keep learning and studying and loving and binding with believers and to eliminate sin from my life.
