The story behind the idea
He's going to say, We need to talk about that tent, because that was not yours, that was mine. I gave it to you, and how you treated it and how you used it will tell me exactly what I need to know on whether or not you should be given a house. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
What stands out
People raised among God's people, listening to sermons week in and week out, do this, don't do this. Rightly argued, biblically accurate, but fundamentally there is not a surrender of their whole self to the will of God as their purpose and goal.
Why it matters
To help with that, and you might find this really interesting from 1 Corinthians 6. I mean, you might not agree, but as always, in every episode, it's not important that you agree with me, only that you admit that I'm correct. There are some really interesting statements in the chapter section I read for you that almost don't make sense to me. Like the term all things are lawful for me in verse 12.
A faithful way forward
That argument was being used to say, look, I know I probably shouldn't be in a sexual relationship before marriage, but it's just natural, the natural outgrowth of our love and our bodies, and you can't really fight that. Or, yes, I know what you believe about homosexuality and the verses that you quote, but these are natural feelings that I have, someone might say, for someone else of the same sex, it's like food and the stomach.
Put it into practice
Again, the Gnostics, which we don't talk about often, perpetuated that idea, but man, it is pervasive in our time. I've seen it among God's people and certainly by those who've heard the truth about what is right and wrong their whole lives. Then all of a sudden one day they stop coming to church and they don't understand why you're telling them that there's things they should do and don't do. So you come back and go, well, because if we don't obey God, then we can't be in the kingdom of heaven, which is exactly what this text teaches, going back to verse nine.
