The story behind the idea
I know who I am, I know why I'm here, and I get up every day filled with the goodness of God and ready to just interact with the world in a Christ-reflecting way. This is mission orientation, and nothing brings peace to your life like knowing exactly who you are by a grace that's greater than yourself and for whom you are living and why. That is the great mission and the great hope for everyone listening today.
What stands out
The one that we all know is Jesus speaking through John in the book of Revelation to the church at Laodicea. You remember when Jesus said to them, I know your deeds, that you're neither cold nor hot. Because you are lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will spit you out of my mouth.
Why it matters
Then he follows up by talking about you and me in John twelve, twenty five. He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to eternal life.
A faithful way forward
There is nothing that helps people get along more, there is nothing that makes you feel better about yourself than to apply yourself to that which you believe you have been created. I can guarantee you that in daytight increments, if you will make sure every day that you pray for God's help and that you in some way prioritize his purpose for your life. Whatever is on your mission list, you will feel differently about that day. As those days string together, you will feel differently about your life.
Put it into practice
Maybe they're not miserable on the surface level at this point, but their interaction with, their dependency upon, their service of God's people is slowly becoming distanced. They're not spending much time with people who are all in, so they think they're all in, at least on some level. I'm willing to bet today if you're one of those people and you're listening that you know that that is not the case.
