The story behind the idea

This isn't about product placement or getting people to do what you want them to do. This is about affecting the way they experience you or whatever you're about and it leaves a lasting mark that brings about all kinds of good outcomes in the future. Let me walk you through some of the main ideas of the book.

What stands out

There were some points about empowering your employees to be creative. They shouldn't be scared of what you're going to say if they do something really kind for some customers that's out of the ordinary or incurs some cost. That has to start, he goes on to say, with leadership.

Why it matters

Why do some acts of kindness stay with us for decades while others are forgotten in minutes? Or maybe another kind of question: can you remember some form of hospitality, kindness from someone that you didn't expect it, that you just have never forgotten? This is not a strike against all the other forms of kindness that people express to each other on a regular basis.

A faithful way forward

The Samaritan woman in John 4, Zacchaeus in Luke 19, the 5,000 fed in Mark 6, they came for teaching. I think when Christians realize that God is doing more through Christ and Jesus is providing more than you will ever not only deserve, but can even imagine, you just fall in love with Him and you love your relationship with Him.

Put it into practice

People may forget the point that we make or even the exact thing that we serve or do. They may forget our sermons, but they rarely forget genuine consideration and love. This may help you, but if you can think of ways and times in the recent past where people have made you feel valuable when they didn't need to do that, and that's clung to you, then you will know precisely what to do.

Think about it
