The story behind the idea
Now we live in the strength of his might, not our own. I think it would be great this holiday season, Christmas, and New Year's if you and your family and the people you love could have those kinds of conversations.
What stands out
The Goliaths in this world, if you want to look at it that way, or the persecution of people who devalue your faith, or ill treatment even from God's own people. Is this the way you speak with your family and friends when you go through job loss or sickness or excessive sorrow?
Why it matters
If that's something you're willing to do, I think we need to ask the follow-up question does that mean I need to do anything? Does that mean I need to be active and training and put on the armor of God and step out in faith? The answer comes here right after the verses we just read. The people of Israel were told, don't fear or dismay, God will fight the battle.
A faithful way forward
The Holy Spirit has told us that if we be faithful unto death, that's length or depth, we will receive the crown of life. You might be like, Yeah, I believe the prophets, but if I carry on in anxiety, in fear, in doubt of myself because I'm still trying to kind of win this on my own, then I'm defying that claim to true belief.
Put it into practice
I mean, these guys have had wonderful experiences under the hand of the Lord, and somehow late in life, when they're confronted with a decision, they do not turn to God first. Maybe it's pride, they've accomplished so much that they forget that they are powerless and all of that victory is from God. Maybe it's inconvenient, there's not a prophet around in those moments.
