The story behind the idea
It helps them perform at a higher level, but the older we get, the more crucial it is to make sure our core is strong so that we don't fall or suffer unnecessary injury.
What stands out
Maybe they're listening today, going, How do I make sure that I am feasting properly on the word to get the nutrients that I need, that I'm training well? More than that, I would love to engage my fellow students. I would love to be a part of helping others grow stronger.
Why it matters
Or if you have joined the team, then show up for practice, get off the bench, help somebody figure out their swing, get involved. For students, this means being sure to get your homework done and get your life lined out so that you can be with God's people, especially if you're on your own for the first time. For parents trying to encourage their kids, keep getting them with God's people.
A faithful way forward
They'll applaud you when you say we need to grow, we need to mature, but when that involves actual change, that's when people get upset.
Put it into practice
When you join a team, sometimes you pick out the weaknesses of other players. People do that in the faith, unless I understand that I've got work to do on me just the same as they do, and maybe we can help each other. If we get to a point where we think we know everything we need to know and we're everywhere we need to go, then we will cease to have a need for God's power, God's changing and imposing presence.
