What to remember
Namely the Lord and his purpose for our lives as his people, but also one another.
They gather with God's people and they praise God together and they sing, and the Holy Spirit is in that place, and there are these incredible results.
They became devoted to worship, devoted to listening to preaching and teaching, to praying with God's people, to any different kind of fellowship.
Key Scriptures
Acts 2Acts 4

The story behind the idea

They want to participate, they open up their homes, they're about the work. They really look at the quality of their lives in Christ by the way they participate in and support God's people.

What stands out

As soon as they found out, hey, you have believed and you have been saved and your sins are forgiven, they didn't go off and live their own individualistic lives with the occasional worship service. They became devoted to worship, devoted to listening to preaching and teaching, to praying with God's people, to any different kind of fellowship. They would meet in the temple where the scrolls were and read and sing and pray, and they would meet house to house with fellow believers, certainly talking about the truth and eating their meals together. They wanted to live this commitment and not alone and not just their family.

Why it matters

When we get to Acts 4, and Peter and John are going through a hard time, they don't run home to their families alone, and they don't run off by themselves. They gather with God's people and they praise God together and they sing, and the Holy Spirit is in that place, and there are these incredible results. Later in that chapter, it was found out that some of the brethren had needs, and they didn't just say, Hey, I'll pray for you and see you next week.

A faithful way forward

I mean, they're in Jerusalem, and there are a lot of people there in Acts 2 and 4 who don't have a place to stay. There's a great persecution, there was a famine a little while later.

Put it into practice

Sometimes we're positive about Christ and nothing but negative about the church. Look, the church has got people in it, but we're saved people and we're functioning in something greater than ourselves.
